GENIVAR is on the brink of completing a technico-economic feasibility study for the Bissa-Zandkom gold mine in Burkina Faso.
The goal of this project is to have the Burkinabe government convert the exploration permit for the Bissa property into an exploitation permit, as well as the pursuit of the development of this project into an open-pit mine by the mining company. All technical, economic and environmental aspects were addressed throughout the course of this mandate.
The project consists of several open pits, in both altered and non-altered rock materials, a processing plant (heap leaching or carbon in leach to recover the gold from the ore), the water, mining waste and tailings management facilities, the infrastructures for services inherent to such an operation and complete housing complexes for the expatriates and the local employees. A portion of the mandate was to establish the environmental timeline of the mining project in order to evaluate its potential impact on the environment and on the local population, as well as to determine what mitigation measures are to be put in place.
