GENIVAR Lands Quebec City Leachate Treatment Project
GENIVAR has obtained an engineering mandate for the implementation of an innovative treatment system at the Saint-Joachim technical landfill site in Quebec City.
The mandate represents the continuation of the work already begun and will provide detailed engineering, plans and specifications, supervision of the work, and geosynthetic component quality assurance.
It one of the first times in Canada that a fluidized-bed biological process will be used in the treatment of leachate wastewater. It is significant because this process is more efficient and economical than traditional methods.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2008. Approximately 65,000 m
3 of leachate will be treated annually. The work will include the installation of a 1.5-km inflow pipe, the addition of a new storage basin and two pumping stations, modifications to the existing aeration system and basins, implementation of the fluidized-bed process, a leachate heating system, and any other related work.
